ON. Horizontal Spaces - Lorquí, Murcia. Spain

[EN] ON is a place dedicated to leisure and the enjoyment of nature. The English word ON means to start, in reference to a multi space that is active and continuously on. ON is also a heritage and landscape recycling and renovation operation. A cistern-palace, a centennial palm grove, a pine forest and cane field, are the natural elements that unite and regenerate in our project. Each of these elements requires a specific project. A transparent ring, a sequence of terraces, a green space and an esplanade of vehicles and islands, respectively. ON is built in concrete and glass. The solid and transparent are combined to re-construct an old oasis of water and palm trees. The textured, colour or painted concrete creates new paths on the landscape, contributes new ancestral walled structures and creates a shadowed space, organic and transparent, almost invisible.[ES] ON es un lugar destinado al ocio y al disfrute de la naturaleza. Durán Fernández, J.; Moreno Ruiz, D. The tourism sector stakeholders in general, and the hotel companies stakeholders in particular, keep demanding more and more intensity the implementation and development of environmental policies that ensure sustainable tourist services, being the national and international large hotel chains the ones that make the biggest efforts in this area. There are numerous studies that value, in an unequal way, the cost and consequences of these environmental sustainability strategies on the performance of companies. For the hotel sector in particular, the scientific literature does not offer convincing enough conclusions in regards to the influence of these strategies on hotels performance. Some authors affirm that the clients are willing to pay higher rates when they recognise a high environmental component in the product. Other studies have concluded that when clients detect the proper implementation of energy saving, waste recycling or low emissions policies, they manifest very positive opinions on social media and online review platforms, notably improving the company’s reputation. In addition, the Creating Shared Value strategies between companies and stakeholders supported by Porter, consider that the redefinition of the companies’ configuration of their chain of value is highly important, including the implementation of environmental policies that involve the whole company. The results obtained grant clarity about the stimulus that entails the application of hotel environmental policies (in a shared value strategy) and the improvement of reputation, in hotel performance.Universidad de Málaga. Business Process Management for optimizing clinical processes: A systematic literature review

    Get PDF
Business Process Management is a new strategy for process management that is having a major impact today. Mainly, its use is focused on the industrial, services, and business sector. However, in recent years, it has begun to apply for optimizing clinical processes. So far, no studies that evaluate its true impact on the healthcare sector have been found. This systematic review aims to assess the results of the application of Business Process Management methodology on clinical processes, analyzing whether it can become a useful tool to improve the effectiveness and quality of processes. We conducted a systematic literature review using ScienceDirect, Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, and Springer databases. After the electronic search process in different databases, 18 articles met the pre-established requirements. The findings support the use of Business Process Management as an effective methodology to optimize clinical processes. Business Process Management has proven to be a feasible and useful methodology to design and optimize clinical processes, as well as to automate tasks. However, a more comprehensive follow-up of this methodology, better technological support, and greater involvement of all the clinical staff are factors that play a key role for the development of its true potential. This work was supported by the Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad of the Spanish Government (ref. The internet is an area where young people establish relationships and develop socially, emotionally and morally, but it also gives rise to certain forms of online behaviour, such as cybergossip, which are associated with cyberaggression and other risky behaviour. The aims of this study were to verify whether a longitudinal association exists between cybergossip and cyberaggression, and to discover which mechanisms of moral disengagement may mediate this relationship. The final sample consisted of 1392 students (50% girls; Mage = 13.47; SD = 0.77), who were surveyed in a three-wave longitudinal study at six-month intervals. The results obtained confirmed a direct, positive relationship between cybergossip, subsequent cyberaggression and the mediation exerted by cognitive restructuring in this transition. We discuss the importance of recognizing and detecting the fine distinction between online gossip and cyberaggression with the intention of doing harm, and focus on the justifications used by young people to normalize online bullying. To sum up, there is a clear need to encourage ethical, responsible behaviour in online interactions in order to achieve well-balanced, more sustainable relationships in classrooms

Prediction of the mode of delivery using artificial intelligence algorithms

Background and objective: Mode of delivery is one of the issues that most concerns obstetricians. The caesarean section rate has increased progressively in recent years, exceeding the limit recommended by health institutions. Obstetricians generally lack the necessary technology to help them decide whether a caesarean delivery is appropriate based on antepartum and intrapartum conditions. Methods: In this study, we have tested the suitability of using three popular artificial intelligence algorithms, Support Vector Machines, Multilayer Perceptron and, Random Forest, to develop a clinical decision support system for the prediction of the mode of delivery according to three categories: caesarean section, euthocic vaginal delivery and, instrumental vaginal delivery. For this purpose, we used a comprehensive clinical database consisting of 25038 records with 48 attributes of women who attended to give birth at the Service of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the University Clinical Hospital "Virgen de la Arrixaca" in the Murcia Region (Spain) from January of 2016 to January 2019. Women involved were patients with singleton pregnancies who attended to the emergency room on active labour or undergoing a planned induction of labour for medical reasons. Results: The three implemented algorithms showed a similar performance, all of them reaching an accuracy equal to or above 90% in the classification between caesarean and vaginal deliveries and somewhat lower, around 87% between instrumental and euthocic. Conclusions: The results validate the use of these algorithms to build a clinical decision system to help gynaecologists to predict the mode of delivery

The role of conductive heat losses on the formation of isolated flame cells in Hele-Shaw chambers

The propagation of low-Lewis-number premixed flames is analyzed in a partially confined Hele-Shaw chamber formed by two parallel plates separated a distance h apart. An asymptotic-numerical study can be performed for small gaps compared to the flame thickness deltaT . In this narrow-channel limit, the prob- lem formulation simplifies to a quasi-2D description in which the velocity field is controlled by domi- nant viscous effects. After accounting for conductive heat losses through the plates in our formulation, we found that the reaction front breaks into one or several isolated flame cells where the temperature is large enough to sustain the reaction, both in absence and in presence of buoyancy effects. Under these near-limit conditions, the isolated flame cells either travel steadily or undergo a slow random walk over the chamber in which the reacting front splits successively to form a tree-like pathway, burning only a small fraction of the fuel before reaching the end of the chamber. The production of quasi-2D circular or comet-like flames under specific favorable conditions is demonstrated in this paper, with convection, conductive heat losses and differential diffusion playing an essential role in the formation of the isolated one and two-headed flame cells. This work was supported by the project ENE2015-65852-C2-1-R (FV,MSS,DMR) and ENE2015-65852-C2-2-R (DFG,VK) (MINECO/FEDER, UE). Support System for Early Diagnosis of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Based on the Service-Oriented Architecture Paradigm and Business Process Management Strategy: Development and Usability Survey Among Patients and Health Care Providers

    Get PDF
Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic respiratory disease with a high global prevalence. The main scientific societies dedicated to the management of this disease have published clinical practice guidelines for quality practice. However, at present, there are important weaknesses in COPD diagnosis criteria that often lead to underdiagnosis or misdiagnosis. Objective: We sought to develop a new support system for COPD diagnosis. The system was designed to overcome the weaknesses detected in current guidelines with the goals of enabling early diagnosis, and improving the diagnostic accuracy and quality of care provided. Methods: We first analyzed the main clinical guidelines for COPD to detect weaknesses that exist in the current diagnostic process, and then proposed a redesign based on a business process management (BPM) strategy for its optimization. The BPM system acts as a backbone throughout the process of COPD diagnosis in this proposed approach. The newly developed support system was integrated into a health information system for validation of its use in a hospital environment. The system was qualitatively evaluated by experts (n=12) and patients (n=36). Results: Among the 12 experts, 10 (83%) positively evaluated our system with respect to increasing the speed for making the diagnosis, helping in interpreting results, and encouraging opportunistic diagnosis. With an overall rating of 4.29 on a 5-point scale, 27/36 (75%) of patients considered that the system was very useful in providing a warning about possible cases of COPD. The overall assessment of the system was 4.53 on a 5-point Likert scale with agreement to extend its use to all primary care centers. Conclusions: The proposed system provides a functional method to overcome the weaknesses detected in the current diagnostic process for COPD, which can help foster early diagnosis, while improving the diagnostic accuracy and quality of care provided.AR received financial support from the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (BES-2015-073611)

Heritage recovered from the Coliseo España Theatre by the University of Seville

Among the rich historical heritage kept by the University of Seville, we can find the works inherited from the Latin American Exhibition that took place in Seville in 1929. From that Exhibition, the university keeps the murals which decorated the Honour Room in Coliseo España theatre and the tiling of this same building saved from internal demolition in 1976 and which have been the main topic in a end-of-degree dissertation supervised by professor Mª Fernanda Morón de Castro. This research analyses the history of Coliseo España Theatre, listing the difficulties it went through and following with a detailed architectural description. Furthermore, it assesses the appraisement of the building, its originality, authentity and the opinion of the citizens of Seville from its opening in 1931. The central and most important part of this research is the analysis of the murals painted by Francisco Hohenleiter y Castro, rescued from the Honour Room in the Theatre and the tiling by Enrique Orce Mármol, which decorated the inside. The next and last part in this study focuses on the current condition of these pieces and the different restorations they have gone through. The Coliseo España Theatre has become a referent in the heritage destruction in the city of Seville suffered in the 1960s and how its declaration as Historical Monument in 1971 didn´t preserve it completely. Thanks to the request of the University of Seville the murals and ceramic tiling could be saved from their destruction
